Intermediate Technique: String Muting

There are two main types of string muting, Right hand muting (Palm muting) and Left hand muting.
Palm muting is used a lot in popular styles of music. It helps to dampen the strings and give sort of “chugging sound.” It also helps to create a wider dynamic range.

Left hand muting sounds very different. It creates a crisp percussive sound that often times lacks any pitch.
