If you don’t know about this already, it’s time you check it out: RiffStation Beta! Basically it’s a site that allows you to very quickly and easily search songs you want to learn how to play. I searched Green Day, Time of Your Life (because Green Day is awesome if you didn’t know…). Check out the video below to give you an idea of how it works to show chords for Guitar, Ukulele and Piano.

The songs are synced with YouTube Videos so you can hear the and see the chord changes. RiffStation can detect Major, minor and 7th chords with an accuracy rate of about 85%. The chord progressions are only shown in root position so you’ll have to know how to adjust this for smoother playing and better voicing.

This seems like a fun tool to mess around with, finding and playing with new songs. Since they only show chords in root position, you’ll probably have some work to do on your own – especially the piano players. In fact, I’d be quicker to recommend this to only the string players right now. They also have a Pro Version – which I haven’t checked out. If anyone tries that out – let me know what you think!
