This is just awesome. As you know, I teach a lot of instruments, but no strings. With guitar, you can really learn quite a bit on your own and develop a personally satisfying level of playing, but you should at least know some basics. Thaddeus Hogarth, a Professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music offers a free course, Intrduction to Guitar on coursera.com. Here’s a description:

Grasp the essentials needed to begin playing acoustic or electric guitar. You’ll learn an easy approach to get you playing quickly, through a combination of exploring the instrument, performance technique, and basic music theory.

The best part, is you don’t need to have any prior musical training to benefit from this course, all you need is a guitar and the ability to record assignments onto your computer using a program like Audacity (it’s free I love it, I’ll tell you more about it another time!) Follow links below to get the course and check out some background on the teacher.
