Michael Evans holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Tampa. Michael started training on voice as a sophomore in highs chool, and almost immediately after decided to teach himself piano so he could play for his church. Soon after he started training formally and develop a true passion for music through performance and education.
After high school Michael went on to get an Associates in Arts from the State College of Florida,. He studied piano under Aza Torshkoeva and Voice with John Fiorito. Here he made the President’s List and received the Outstanding Music Student Award. It was also at SCF where he had his first foray into the world of teaching as a Music Theory Tutor for the college, and won the Mentor Award. Michael went on to the University of Tampa, continuing training in both voice and piano. He was involved in numerous musicals including Grease, Pirates of Penzance and more, and one best supporting character in a musical. He was also part of the Chamber choir, Men’s Glee Choir and part of the acapella group, Tampa Tones which won Quarterfinals at the International A Cappella Association during his time with them.
After graduation, the Director of Vocal Studies at SCF personally requested Michael come back as Assistant Director to the department. Here, he assisted college students with acting, theory, piano, dance and vocal coaching. He also held the position as Assistant Choir Director, leading full rehearsals, with emphasis on teaching proper vocal technique, diction & phrasing as well as conducting both in rehearsals and for performances. During this time Michael also served as Assistant Director of SCF’s production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood and coordinated several other musical productions. Michael has also interned at the Sarasota Opera House.
Aside from working with college students, Michael began teaching for Elizabeth Farrell Music in 2021 as a substitute voice and piano teacher for students of all ages and levels. After rave reviews from students and at the behest of the families, Michael accepted a full time piano and vocal instructor position with EFMusic in 2022.
Along with his full teaching schedule, Michael is also a part of the Choral Artists of Sarasota.
