Kelsey Westall
Kelsey Westall
Piano, Voice
Ever since she could talk, Kelsey chose to sing. She would spend hours singing and creating songs on Grandmother’s piano and when she turned 7, her parents decided it was time to get her into formal piano lessons. By 11 years old, she was in voice lessons as well. In 6th grade, she joined her school’s band program playing trumpet, ultimately switching to French horn, which she would play through high school in Symphonic Band as well as keys and mallets for marching band. Kelsey was also the pianist and occasional vocalist for middle school jazz bands and for the 5th ranked High School Jazz Ensemble in all of Florida. She used her creativity during this time to focus and learn improvisation.
As an adult, Kelsey continued both piano and voice, and started composing as well. She writes her own original music for voice and instrumental (singer/songwriter) and with other musicians composing everything from pop, jazz, metal, rock to country.
In addition to an obvious love of music, Kelsey has always had an interest, and knack, for teaching. She began working with her peers in high school, tutoring them on piano, voice and music theory and has been teaching ever since. Known locally, people would seek out Kelsey for coaching, music theory and composition resulting in a small private studio until she was introduced to the Rock Box and signed as a teacher in 2018. After just a few months, Kelsey already had a full schedule of dedicated and eager young musicians.
Aside from teaching, Kelsey keeps a small, but active gigging schedule as an occasional accompanist, but also with her band Kadaver Dolls, as keyboardist and background vocalist. Kadaver Dolls recently released a new album this past January and you can find them performing locally, mainly in the St. Petersburg and Tampa areas.
