Daniel Lara
Daniel Lara
Strings, Guitar, Piano
Daniel Lara is a dedicated music educator and multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey began with a formative experience in fifth grade after attending a performance of The Nutcracker. Inspired by the orchestra and captivated by the sound and presence of the violin, he decided he wanted to begin studying strings. Shortly after, he was drawn to the viola after hearing its unique role within the ensemble and the idea that it was an often-underappreciated instrument, but ultimately landed on violin as his principal. He began performing in middle school orchestra in sixth grade and continued through twelfth grade, consistently placing in the highest audition-based ensembles available. This early orchestral experience helped establish a strong foundation in ensemble performance, musicianship, and discipline. Alongside his classical training, Daniel developed a passion for guitar and bass guitar. With instruments frequently available in his home and inspiration from his uncle, he became a self-taught guitarist, learning through experimentation, listening, and online resources. This independent study broadened his musical perspective and strengthened his versatility across multiple instruments and genres.
During his high school career, Daniel earned a Superior rating at the Florida School Music Association Music Performance Assessment (MPA) as a student conductor, demonstrating both leadership and musical excellence. Following graduation, Daniel volunteered at Manatee High School, where he provided sectional coaching and mentorship to student musicians for one year. He found his calling as a teacher and continued as a music instructor at Music & Arts in Manatee County. Also, around this time the conductor of the Sarasota Pops Orchestra heard him play and invited him to be the young artist guest soloist for the “Camping with the Pops” summer program. Shortly thereafter, he was also asked to join the orchestra for the upcoming season.
Daniel was awarded a full scholarship to the State College of Florida as part of the Presidential String Quartet through the Music department. He would earn this scholarship for both years while earning his Associate of Arts. Following SCF, Daniel began pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at the University of South Florida in 2024. During his collegiate studies, Daniel also added piano to his instrumental skill set, recognizing its essential importance for music educators in teaching theory, rehearsal skills, and comprehensive musicianship across all ensembles.
In 2026, Daniel was again invited to perform at the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) President’s Concert as part of a professional string quartet. He was selected to perform newly commissioned arrangements premiered specifically for the event and had the opportunity to perform alongside three professional musicians and educators, making him the only college student in the ensemble.
Daniel’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music education is both transformative and deeply fulfilling. He is passionate about helping students develop confidence and understanding through music, guiding them through challenges, and supporting those moments when concepts finally “click.” His dedication to student growth continues to shape his development as both an educator and performer.
