James (J) Ring is a passionate music educator, performer, composer, and producer with more than 25 years of professional experience helping students of all ages discover their musical potential. Throughout his career, James has embraced many roles in the music world, including performer, composer, arranger, director, producer, and educator. His greatest passion has always been helping others experience the confidence, creativity, and joy that comes from making music.

James’ musical foundation began at the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, developing a strong foundation in classical technique, musicianship, ear training, and ensemble performance. He continued his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he focused on Composition, Film Scoring, and Guitar Performance. After Berklee, he pursued additional studies in Jazz Performance at the University of North Florida, further expanding his skills in musicianship, improvisation, and ensemble performance. 

Throughout his career, James has taught students of all ages and abilities, specializing in guitar, piano, bass, mandolin, banjo, drums, music theory, songwriting, improvisation, and performance preparation. His diverse musical background spans Rock, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Classical, and Contemporary Worship, allowing him to connect with students across a wide variety of musical interests and goals.

As Creative Director and Instructor at Concert School of Music (OR), James developed and launched a successful rock band program, taught multiple instruments, directed rehearsals, arranged music, coached student ensembles, and produced live performances. As a Multi-Instrument Instructor at Mason Music (AL), he taught guitar, bass, and piano while developing individualized curriculum for students of varying ages and experience levels. He also served as Music Program Coordinator at Emerald Coast Autism Center (FL), where he created engaging and adaptive music experiences for children with diverse learning needs. These experiences strengthened his ability to tailor instruction to each student’s learning style and create a supportive environment where every student can thrive.

In addition to teaching, James has extensive experience as a composer, producer, and creative professional. Through EchoForge Productions, he composed, arranged, recorded, and produced original music for commercial and educational projects while collaborating with professional musicians. He has also created online guitar curriculum through KillerGuitarRigs.com, developing engaging lessons in Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Pop styles.
