Piano & Composition/Songwriting

Artur Akshelyan is an Armenian-born prizewinning composer and educator who holds a Doctor of Music Degree in Composition from Florida State University.

Artur discovered his passion for music at the age of twelve while living in Greece. It was there that he began taking piano lessons, wrote his first songs, and explored harmonizing his own melodies. These experiences sparked a lifelong love of music and creativity. Today, he enjoys helping students discover that same excitement and confidence through engaging, personalized lessons.

Artur has taught private piano lessons to students ages six through adult adults in Switzerland, Greece, Armenia and the United States. While his teaching is rooted in classical training, he also enjoys introducing students to improvisation, composition/songwriting, film music, ear training and more. In addition to private instruction, Artur has taught at several universities and music institutions. His experience includes teaching composition and theory at Florida State University and the Yerevan State Conservatory, keyboard harmony and aural skills at Boston University, and music appreciation at the American University of Armenia. He’s also delivered masterclasses on music composition, mentoring emerging composers and more. His goal as a teacher is to help students develop not only strong technical skills, but also creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Working with students of different ages, backgrounds, and musical interests has helped shape his flexible and supportive teaching style.

Alongside teaching, Artur maintains an active international career as a composer and conductor in contemporary music. His music has been performed by leading ensembles across the United States and Europe, and he has received numerous commissions and awards for his work. As a conductor, he has collaborated with contemporary music ensembles and enjoys bringing new musical ideas to life through rehearsal and performance. These experiences continue to shape his musicianship and teaching, but his greatest satisfaction comes from helping students grow, gain confidence, and discover the joy of making music.
