Daniel Fontaine

Winds, Brass, Piano, Strings

Daniel Fontaine

Daniel Fontaine, began his musical journey early at 6 years old taking piano lessons in his home country of Brazil. At 9, Daniel moved the the United States and added flute and saxophone in Middle school and then Bassoon in high school.  He would perform in All-State and All-County ensembles, symphonic band and Orchestra throughout his schooling. In high school Daniel also had his introduction to the world of teaching, tutoring the up and coming freshman on how to play Bassoon.

That experience inspired Daniel to enroll in a dual program at Duquesne University in Pittsburg, PA earning two Bachelor Degrees in both Music Education and Music Performance as bassoon principal. During University, he lived in the practice rooms honing his crafts and studying other orchestral and band instruments. He knew in turn, it would not only better his own musicianship on bassoon, but ultimately make him a more impactful music educator. Learning theory and technique across multiple instruments gave him a unique perspective on the challenges of each instrument, but also commonalities, both contributing to his adaptability in providing multiple ways to help students achieve their goals. He would continue teaching music theory and composition to other college students at Duquesne.  In addition to tutoring, instrumental ensembles and training, Daniel also performed with the traveling choir “Voices of Spirit” which toured all over Europe.

While in Pittsburg, Daniel began a private home studio composed of mainly wind and piano students and maintained an active performing schedule. He served as substitute bassoonist for the Pittsburgh Philharmonic for a short while before he was given 2nd chair with the group. After 2 seasons they asked him to audition for (and win) Principal Bassoonist.  Daniel also worked for the Pittsburgh symphony orchestra as proxy bassoon and for the pit orchestra at the Benedum Center for theatre productions.

In 2023 Daniel moved to Florida and would continue performing as an accompanist for local churches as well as in restaurants where he’d sing & play piano and/or guitar, harmonica and saxophone. He also quickly found a position teaching at The Rock Box and in less than 6 months had a full schedule of students from winds to brass to piano and more. Daniel is Fluent in Portuguese, English and conversational in Spanish.
