Zach Westall

Zach Westall

Guitar, Piano

Zach Westall was inspired by his musician father and fellow Rock Box instructor, Joe Westall, at a very young age.  He heard his father playing Moonlight Sonata on the piano and at 6 years old, sat down and started playing it by year. Clearly, it was time to get him into lessons!  His father Joe, a prominent guitar player, was his ultimate inspiration. Some of Zach’s fondest memories as a child involved sitting at home listening to him play acoustic guitar and falling in love with the instrument. At 10 he started learning with his Dad and began forming memories of them playing together.

With a solid foundation provided at home and as a highly self-motivated and avid learner, Zach would continue to enroll in as many online courses and classes as possible during his high school years.  After graduation he formally began studying with Berklee College of Music instructor and international artist, Jon Finn. As an adult, Zach has also continued his piano training which inadvertently sparked a strong interest in the world of composition. The piano provided the visual ease of understanding theory and music writing, so naturally, Zach started studying formal composition, beginning with small pieces for piano and guitar and moving towards larger orchestrations for string quartets and more.

Zach’s foray into teaching began when he was recommended to the Rock Box as a substitute instructor. The students sang his praises, remarking about how responsive Zach was to their individual interests and how much they truly enjoyed how he could make focused, but fun lessons.  At their behest, he was added as full-time teaching staff for the school soon thereafter.  More recently, Zach has auditioned for Berklee College of Music, with his talents landing him a hefty scholarship for his education.  Considering his newfound love of teaching, Zach decided to attend the Online division pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with a focus on Composition, so he could remain as an instructor.

Zach has taught students ages 4 through retired adults with great success. While his favorite genre is Funk, he can play and teach across all styles including punk, rock, metal, indie, R&B, pop, rock and so much more. Parents and students love Zach’s transparency during lessons and the learning process, his clear communication and instruction, all with a positive attitude and atmosphere.

In addition to teaching, Zach is a gigging musician, performing locally in bands including the Funk band, Yaya Diamond & the Dreamchasers.
