As a former teacher of underprivileged kids in an urban area, I’ve had many encounters with various behavioral, developmental and learning obstacles. It goes without saying I’ve seen my fair share of kids with attention issues. Whether ADHD or otherwise, there were always kids with problems focusing.

When children with attention issues entered a band program with me at the school after a while it was clear their attention spans were significantly improving. My observations were confirmed by teachers and parents approaching with the same conclusion.

Without a doubt I believe that music lessons, specifically learning to play an instrument, can benefit those with attention disorders. (But I’m talking about quality training with a professional instructor and committed home practice!) This short video will give a little insight to how music could be used as a treatment for ADHD.
